England’s bread-making tradition is both distinctive and enduring, offering a range of regional and time-honoured classics that deserve wider recognition. This full-day, hands-on course focuses on a selection of these traditional breads, combining practical skills with an understanding of their heritage and technique.
Working alongside our tutors, you will prepare and bake a variety of well-known English staples, developing confidence in both griddle baking and oven work.
What You’ll Bake
Crumpets and pikelets, with their characteristic open texture
English muffins, cooked on the griddle
A classic white cottage loaf
Lardy cake (vegetarian option available)
Course Information
This course is suitable for all abilities, including those with little or no prior experience.
The School of Artisan Food is set within the Welbeck Estate in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, conveniently located close to the A1 and M1.
All ingredients, equipment and recipes are provided. Refreshments will be available throughout the day, along with a light, artisan lunch.
In line with our commitment to reducing waste, we encourage students to bring their own containers to take their bread home.
